The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal details of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
INEC announced that political parties now have until midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, to complete the process, instead of the earlier deadline of Saturday, July 11.
The extension was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna. According to the commission, the decision followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the upload of their candidates’ information before the original deadline.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission has approved the extension of the deadline for submission of lists of candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections by political parties,” the statement read.
INEC explained that the extension was aimed at giving all political parties a fair opportunity to complete the process while remaining within the provisions of the Electoral Act. The commission urged parties to use the additional three days to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates before the new deadline expires.
The extension comes after reports that several political parties encountered technical and logistical difficulties while using INEC’s online nomination portal to submit their candidates’ details.
