The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State has announced it will not challenge the results of the June 20, 2026 governorship election, choosing instead to channel its energy into rebuilding and preparing for upcoming polls.
This decision was reached at an expanded State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting held on July 9 in Ado Ekiti, with details released in a communiqué signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Gboyega Aribisogan.
The communiqué explained that after weighing legal advice, available evidence, the need to maintain peace in Ekiti, and the party’s broader political strategy, the ADC resolved not to proceed to the election petition tribunal. “Litigation at this time will not serve the greater interest of our members, supporters and the people of Ekiti State,” the statement read.
While acknowledging concerns about the conduct of the election in parts of the state, the party said it preferred dialogue over prolonged legal battles. It reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, due process and the rule of law, stressing that constructive engagement was the chosen path.
The SEC directed all party structures to immediately embark on repositioning, reconciliation and grassroots mobilisation ahead of future elections. Committees will be set up to map out plans for grassroots outreach, candidate identification, training of party agents and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
A reconciliation committee was also tasked with engaging aggrieved members to foster unity. Local government and ward executives were directed to launch aggressive membership drives targeting youths, women and professionals through door-to-door outreach, town hall meetings and stakeholder engagements.
The SEC passed a vote of confidence in the party’s National Working Committee under Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, and reiterated support for the state leadership led by Dr. Bamidele Ekunola. It also praised the governorship candidate, Dare Bejide, and his running mate, Chief Ayodeji Babatola, for their efforts during the election.
The communiqué urged members to remain calm, peaceful and united, warning against divisive tendencies. “The ADC in Ekiti State remains one indivisible family committed to internal democracy and collective progress,” it stated, adding that the party aims to reposition itself as a credible alternative for good governance in Ekiti and Nigeria.
