President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, on his election as Chairman of the African Association of Accountant-Generals (AAAG).
In a statement issued on Friday, July 24, 2026, Tinubu described Ogunjimi’s emergence as “a source of immense pride for Nigeria” and a testament to the country’s sustained efforts at promoting transparency, accountability, and excellence in public finance administration.
Dr. Ogunjimi secured the continental position after a keenly contested election involving candidates from Tanzania and The Gambia during the Association’s Annual General Meeting held recently in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
According to a statement by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Ononuga, the President said the election reflected confidence in Nigeria’s leadership in public financial management and in Ogunjimi’s professional capacity.
Tinubu expressed confidence that under Ogunjimi’s leadership, the AAAG will deepen collaboration among member states, foster the exchange of best practices, strengthen institutional capacity, and advance reforms to enhance prudent financial management across Africa.
“The President wishes the Accountant-General a successful tenure and assures him of the Federal Government’s support as he assumes the important continental responsibility,” the statement added.
The African Association of Accountant-Generals brings together heads of public finance and treasury institutions across the continent to harmonise standards, promote accountability, and drive reforms in government accounting and financial reporting.
