The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the appointment of 68 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), conferring on them the country’s highest professional distinction for legal practitioners.
The decision was reached on Friday during the committee’s 174th plenary session, chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
In June, the LPPC had shortlisted 77 lawyers under the Advocates Category and 12 candidates under the Academic Category, inviting public comments on their integrity, reputation, and professional competence before final selection. At the end of the screening process, 68 candidates were successful. Ten applicants under the Advocates Category did not make the final list, while only one candidate was approved from the Academic Category, with the remaining 11 unsuccessful.
The appointments were announced in a statement signed by Mr. Kabir Akanbi, Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC.
According to the committee, the successful applicants will be formally sworn in as Senior Advocates of Nigeria on Monday, October 12, 2026.
