The House of Representatives Committee on the South-South Development Commission has intensified consultations with key stakeholders on a proposed amendment to the South-South Development Commission (Establishment) Act, 2025, aimed at strengthening the Commission’s funding framework to drive sustainable development across the region.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has disclosed that the 10th House received a record 2,747 bills from Nigerians in its first three legislative years, describing the figure as the highest since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Mineral Exploitation, Security and Anti-Money Laundering, Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, has called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, security institutions, state governments, mining operators and other stakeholders to tackle illegal mining and the laundering of proceeds from Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.

The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into allegations that more than ₦1.3 billion was allocated in the 2026 Appropriation Act to a government agency the Presidency insists does not exist.
The House constituted an ad hoc committee to probe the controversy and directed it to interface with the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, the Director-General of the Budget Office, and other relevant officials.
