Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have apprehended a suspected drug dealer believed to be supplying narcotics to armed bandits in Funtua Local Government Area.
Confirming the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Katsina, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, said the suspect, known as “Dunbuje”, was picked up around 5 p.m. on July 15 by officers from the Central Police Station in Funtua.
According to the police spokesperson, the operation followed credible intelligence.
Sadiq-Aliyu explained that the team tracked the suspect before moving in to arrest him. A search conducted immediately after led to the seizure of 500 D5 tablets.
He said preliminary findings show that the suspect made a business of delivering drugs to suspected armed bandits and other criminal groups operating in Funtua and surrounding areas, which helped facilitate their operations.
The spokesperson stated that “Dunbuje” is currently being held while detectives work to uncover his supply chain, trace the source of the drugs, and apprehend other members of the network.
He added that the suspect would be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
The PPRO also disclosed that the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ali Umar-Fage, praised the officers for their professionalism and quick action.
According to him, Umar-Fage reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks by disrupting their logistics and drug supply chains.
He further urged residents to stay alert and provide timely and credible information to help security agencies combat crime across the state.
