Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that legislative duties will not be disrupted by political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking to newsmen at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, after convening a meeting of APC stakeholders in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Akpabio emphasized that lawmakers were elected to serve for four years and would continue their work throughout the tenure.
“We are elected for four years, and we are going to work for four years. Anybody that is walking on the tiny rope must be able to do the balancing act. We are politicians and campaigns would start very soon. Campaigns can be fixed in the afternoons or evenings while we do our work in the mornings,” he said.
At the meeting, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno received unanimous endorsement for a return bid in 2027.
Akpabio stressed that electioneering and legislative duties are separate, adding that not all lawmakers would be on campaign at the same time since they belong to different political parties.
“Nothing will affect legislation. We will continue to make laws to take care of the needs of the people. It has never affected the work of the parliament,” he insisted.
The Senate President reaffirmed that politics would not interfere with the parliament’s core mandate of lawmaking and governance.
