The Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected a bail request for a man held by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged plans to carry out attacks on multiple schools in the Federal Capital Territory.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik turned down John Jude Agbo’s application for bail after the prosecution called its fourth witness and subsequently concluded its case against him.
Agbo is facing charges bordering on terrorism and cybercrime for allegedly plotting to target schools, pupils and teachers.
Delivering her ruling on the bail application, the judge said there was no proof presented to show that Agbo would not abscond if released.
She directed that he be kept in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
Earlier in the proceedings, a DSS officer who testified as a witness explained to the court how his team carried out investigations into Agbo and other alleged accomplices.
The witness submitted an audio-visual recording of Agbo’s interview, which was admitted in evidence and played in open court.
Following that, the prosecution announced it had closed its case.
The judge adjourned the trial to September 24 for Agbo to begin his defence.
