Nollywood actress Nancy Isime has shared her perspective on the role of financial stability in relationships, stressing that love alone may not guarantee a fulfilling marriage.
Speaking on the Tea With Tay podcast, Isime argued that financial hardship places immense pressure on couples and can diminish the quality of family life. “Marriage is not a poverty alleviation scheme, but I don’t believe marrying a poor man can make you happy,” she said.
She explained that realities such as unpaid bills, rent obligations, school fees, and the inability to provide basic necessities often create tension within homes, making it difficult for couples to enjoy a comfortable life together. “When rent is due, school fees can’t be paid and there is no food in the house, it is difficult to have a fantastic life,” she added.
Isime clarified that her comments should not be misinterpreted as placing money above love. Instead, she emphasized that affection and financial well-being serve different purposes in a relationship. “I am not saying there is no love without money. But love and a fantastic life are not the same,” she noted.
She advised intending couples to attain a reasonable level of financial stability before marriage and parenthood, maintaining that being financially prepared helps reduce avoidable pressures and creates a more conducive environment for building a successful family.
