The Nigerian Navy has intercepted an oil tanker allegedly transporting stolen crude oil valued at more than ₦660 million and arrested 12 crew members, as part of its intensified campaign against crude oil theft in the nation’s maritime domain.
The vessel, MT FILIA (IMO No. 8662684), flying the flag of São Tomé and Príncipe, was apprehended on July 23, 2026, at an offshore oil terminal in Akwa Ibom State by personnel of the Eastern Naval Command during Operation Delta Sentinel.

The Nigerian Navy says it has shut down nine illegal refineries and impounded an estimated 104,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil during a raid in Bonny LGA, Rivers State.

The Nigerian Navy says it has dismantled a channel used for moving illegally refined petroleum products in Rivers State through a targeted operation under Operation DELTA SENTINEL.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abass, has warned criminal gangs and economic saboteurs operating in Nigeria’s maritime domain that hard times await them as the Navy intensifies its crackdown on crude oil theft, piracy, and violent extremism.
