Tragedy struck in Tarai community, Jol village of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, as suspected gunmen killed three vigilantes from the same family during a late‑night ambush.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 10:47 p.m. on Tuesday when the assailants stormed the community and opened fire on the local security volunteers. The victims namely Dachung Danjuma, 51; Victor Danjuma, 37; and Nyam Danjuma, 35, were killed instantly while on routine patrol, leaving their family and the wider community devastated.

The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), through its spokesperson Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident in a statement, describing the killings as heartbreaking. Tengwong lamented the continued attacks on Riyom and other Plateau communities despite repeated appeals for improved security.

He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to protect vulnerable communities and bring the perpetrators to justice, stressing that residents cannot continue living under constant threat of violence.
