President Bola Tinubu has declared that ongoing infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are improving security, boosting economic activities, and restoring public confidence in government. He said new roads and solar-powered street lighting are helping to drive criminals out of Abuja communities.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President made the remarks on Friday while commissioning the newly completed Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel Okanla Boulevard), linking Arterial Road N16 and Arterial Road N20 in the Katampe District of Abuja.
Tinubu noted that the installation of solar street lights has transformed the area, making it safer for residents. “We have installed solar street lights, and today Katampe is bright at night. Abuja’s city life is coming back, and criminal hideouts are disappearing,” he said.
He described the project as a practical demonstration of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that the road represents more than physical infrastructure. “A road like CN2 is more than just concrete. It represents hope. It proves to every Nigerian that government can deliver,” he added.
The President commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his performance in transforming the capital city. “When I gave him the assignment to make Abuja a true capital city, I knew his track record. You have not disappointed Mr President. You do not give excuses, you give results,” Tinubu said.
Wike, in his remarks, said the road was already attracting massive private investment and accelerating development in Katampe, with rapid construction of residential and commercial buildings. He emphasized that infrastructure projects are creating jobs and stimulating wider economic activities.
Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda, explained that the 3.9-kilometre road includes underground drainage, water pipelines, sewer networks, telecommunication ducts, solar-powered street lights, walkways, and green areas. He said the project will improve connectivity between Katampe, Mabushi, Jahi, Maitama, and surrounding districts.
Deputy Managing Director of CGC Nigeria Limited, Fan Xiaojing, described the project as “a promise fulfilled,” noting that investors began moving into the area almost immediately after construction started.
The commissioning event concluded with expressions of appreciation to President Tinubu for his commitment to infrastructure development, with officials stressing that the project reflects the administration’s dedication to economic growth, social inclusion, and improved quality of life for residents.
