President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that 147 structures in Lagos will be impacted by the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway service lane. Of these, five will be fully cut while the others will be minimally affected.
Tinubu made this known on Sunday during a stakeholder engagement and the flag-off of repair works on Eko Bridge, Marine Bridge, and the flooded section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. He was represented at the event by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The President noted that Eko Bridge, one of the oldest bridges built after Nigeria’s independence, and Marine Bridge, which provides access to Lagos seaports, are critical to the state’s infrastructure. He urged the Lagos State Government to continue on its path of irreversible development.
Tinubu praised the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, for his efforts in road infrastructure development, stressing that the projects would outlive the current generation. He assured stakeholders that compensation would be provided where necessary, adding: “It will be given to you at the right time.”
He emphasised that the stakeholder engagement was aimed at securing public support for the projects, acknowledging both criticism and recognition as part of governance. “It is my honour to flag off all of these projects to the benefit of mankind, to our citizens in Lagos, to the benefit of all our people across the country,” Tinubu said.
