The Kaduna State Police Command has condemned the mob killing of a woman accused of child theft in Maraban Jos, describing the incident as barbaric and a grave violation of the rule of law.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said in a statement on Sunday that the woman was attacked by an angry mob over unverified allegations. He explained that officers from the Maraban Jos Division had initially rescued her and moved her to the station for protection and proper investigation.
However, hundreds of residents later stormed the station, overpowered officers on duty, and forcefully removed the woman before killing her and setting her body ablaze.
The command confirmed that several suspects had been arrested, with efforts ongoing to apprehend others involved. It stressed that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their hands.
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, warned against jungle justice and mob violence, insisting that attacks on police formations and personnel would not be tolerated. He urged residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies and allow lawful procedures to determine guilt or innocence.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring justice, assuring that anyone found culpable in the incident would face prosecution.
