Seven people lost their lives in a multiple-vehicle collision along the Ibafo-Lagos corridor at Kara, Ibafo, in Ogun State in the early hours of Monday.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, confirmed that the accident happened at about 12:03 a.m. and involved three trucks: a white HOWO CNG/CIMC ENRIC, a white MACK trailer, and a Mitsubishi Canter with registration number JJJ920YA.

Ogun FRSC spokesperson, Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

According to Odunsi, nine males were involved in the crash. Seven were confirmed dead while two others sustained injuries.

He said the FRSC Ibafo Outpost received the distress call at 4:04 a.m. and got to the scene by 4:09 a.m., noting a response time of about five minutes. The corps described the incident as a fatal multiple crash, with speed violation listed as the likely cause pending further investigation.

Odunsi added that personnel of the Ogun State Ambulance Service evacuated the bodies, while the injured victims were rushed to hospital for treatment.

He also stated that the three vehicles involved were later transferred to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Ibafo, for further action.

Reacting, Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, warned drivers, especially those operating articulated vehicles, to desist from over-speeding and to keep safe distances while on the road.

He further cautioned road users to be more careful when driving at night.

Ogunjobi also advised motorists to exercise extra caution when driving at night, noting that reduced visibility and fatigue could increase the risk of road crashes.

The sector commander condoled with the families of those killed and prayed for quick recovery of the injured.
